Bob Marley sang thus: “One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain”.

No matter where we come from, we all love music. I was all of four years old when my exasperated parents first thrust a microphone into my hands, asking me to hum a few lines (as that would, hopefully, keep me occupied for a meaningful length of time). One thing led to another, and before long, music and singing became my second calling in life. Admittedly, I have been unable to pursue music, as much as I would have loved to, amidst spending my day’s neck-deep in unravelling complex human behaviour.

Nevertheless, music for me is a way of finding solace after a long day. I use it to feel creatively refreshed, maintain a work-life balance, dispel negative thoughts, and recharge my emotional currency when feeling drained. It is imperative that all of us, regardless of our profession and culture, cultivate a second passion, apart from work, in our life. It could be anything that excites us: music, painting, sport etc. On those less-than-optimal days at work, it is this passion that will sustain, rejuvenate, and reshape our perspectives.
